Construction of the world’s first memorial museum for the former International Olympic Committee chief Juan Antonio Samaranch in Tianjin is on track for its scheduled opening on April 21st, as the main structure has been completed.
More than 16,000 items owned by or connected to the late Mr. Samaranch, who was at the helm of the Olympic Games governing body from 1980 to 2001, will be housed in the museum.
The Olympic-themed museum covers an area of 30,000 square meters: it is an Arabic number 8-shaped building with five round courtyards resembling the five Olympic rings.
It is located at the Health Industrial Park, Tuanbo New Town, Jinghai County, 30 minutes’ drive from downtown Tianjin.
