The Rector of the University of Turku Kalervo Väänänen and the Rector of Nankai University Kong Ke signed an exchange agreement between the two universities.

The Rector of the University of Turku Kalervo Väänänen participated in a visit to Tianjin, organised by the city of Turku, together with the Rector of Åbo Akademi Jorma Mattinen. Also Vice Director and University Lecturer of the Centre for East Asian Studies Outi Luova was present.

During the visit, student exchange agreements were signed with the universities of Nankai and Tianjin.

The goal of the meeting between rectors was to create better premises for strengthening research and teaching contacts, networking, researcher training cooperation and increasing the export of know-how.

The Nankai University is one of the best universities in China. The Centre for East Asian Studies has collaborated with the Nankai University’s Zhou Enlai School of Management since 2005. During the visit, the teacher and researcher exchange agreement between the units from 2009 was renewed.

The Tianjin University is the first university in China, established in 1895 under the name of Peiyang University. It has actively demonstrated interest in student, teacher and researcher exchange as well as in research cooperation.
