A freight truck lost control and crashed into a bus stop in a northern Chinese city, killing eight people and injuring six others, state broadcaster China Central Television said Wednesday.
The truck driver, who survived Tuesday's crash, said the brakes malfunctioned and that he failed to see the bus stop in the city of Zhangjiakou in the northern province of Hebei.
Video footage shows the truck barreling through an intersection and colliding with at least three cars.
China has a high road fatality rate, and traffic accidents killed more than 62,000 people in the country in 2011. Road safety remains a challenge in China, where inexperienced drivers and overloaded trucks are common.
