6th EAG concludes in Tianjin with China topping overall medal table

The 6th East Asain Games (EAG), the last edition of the regional sports meet, concluded in the Tianjin Grand Theatre here on Tuesday evening with hosts China topping the overall medal table. The ten-day competition has attracted 2,422 athletes from nine countries and regions to compete in 24 sports and 254 events. The Chinese delegation, who fielded 516 athletes to compete in all the 24 sports, collected a total of 134 gold, 79 silver and 51 bronze medals to defend its top position at the medal tally. Photo / Supplied   The risk of serious injury from chilly theatre conditions has forced the Royal New Zealand Ballet to cancel two shows in its tour of China. The company was then locked out of the theatre and was unable to retrieve its sets and costumes until the New Zealand embassy in Beijing intervened. The Royal New Zealand Ballet had been scheduled to perform its production of Giselle in the northern city of Tianjin over the weekend, but had to cancel because it was only 10C inside the theatre.
