Sanhe Island in Beitang district, Tianjin has now opened to the public after its ferry service was put into trial operation.

The island, also known as the fort island, is located at the mouth of Chaobai River, Yongding New River and Ji Canal. It was built into a fort around 1550 A.D. to defeat the Japanese pirates and separated from the land after the 1970s due to military issues.

It’s a perfect place for people to watch the tides, sunrises, wildlife and charming seascapes.

There is a fort theme park and a wetland park on the island. The best month to visit Sanhe Island is November, when hundreds of thousands of migratory birds stop there.

A suspension bridge between the island and the mainland is scheduled to be completed by April, 2013.
