The city of Tianjin attracted 4.28 million visitors during the weeklong Spring Festival holiday, one of China’s two “golden weeks”, generating a record-breaking 3.35 billion yuan (US$540 million) of tourism revenue.
The number of non-local visitors grew 13.2 percent to 1.25 million and the number of overnight visitors to Tianjin increased by 11.33 percent.
Newly-opened tourist attractions in the city became the most popular places to visit. More than 100,000 visitors went to the Tianjin Cultural Center in the holiday period, 45,700 visited the Victory Kingdom amusement park and a total of 193,000 enjoyed the Tianjin Eye, the Italian-style Town and the Tianjin Tower.
The Wudadao Sightseeing Street welcomed 243,000 visitors in the seven days, amongst whom 70 percent were non-locals, mostly from neighboring provinces such as Beijing, Hebei, Shaanxi and Shandong.
Over one million people flocked to the Tianjin Ancient Cultural Street during the holiday period.
